10. Computer Assisted Surgery

It takes 4 weeks for the surgeon and the orthodontist to finalize the surgical plan.  It begins with photographs, dental models and x-rays.  Using these 3 records, an accurate digital model is made of the facial deformity 3 weeks before the surgery.  Once this is made, the surgeon and the orthodontist can simulate the surgery and try out various options to optimize the outcome 2 weeks before the surgery. 3D printed models and surgical guides are made to accurately reproduce the surgical plan in the operating room and to make the surgery efficient.  It provides a detailed roadmap for the surgeon.  We have been using this approach for more than a decade.
