13. Orthodontics After Surgery

 

Jaw surgery will approximate the jaws so that your orthodontist can finalize the position of the teeth within the upper jaw, the teeth within the lower jaw and coordinate the upper and lower teeth to each other.

 

Jaw surgery can approximate the dental arches, but it is never as precise as we would like it to be because of the many variables that are not easily controlled. Thus orthodontics after the surgery to optimize the occlusion (bite) is needed.

 

How long the braces need to remain after surgery various with the specific details of the surgery, the stability of the surgery and the outcome. 

 

Please make an appointment to see Dr. Patel every 3-4 months after surgery and certainly before the braces come off.
