Correction of Chin Deformities

  • Considered an aesthetic (cosmetic) surgery.  Not covered by insurance.
  • Doesn't change the bite.
  • Surgery is done from inside the mouth.
  • Outpatient Surgery.  Approximately 60-90minutes
  • The chin is cut and re-positioned in 3D [lengthen, shorten, asymmetry].
  • Plates and screws hold the new position of the chin.
  • The mental nerve is a sensory nerve and at risk (up to 5%) - permanent loss of sensation.
  • The dental roots can be at risk and either root canal or loss of tooth.
  • Plate problems
  • Recovery is 1-2 weeks.
