Upper Jaw Impaction with Lower Jaw Surgery
-
Braces are put on first
-
When the teeth are aligned, you are ready for jaw surgery
-
Jaw surgery is done inside mouth without outside scars.
-
The surgery shortens the upper jaw to allow the upper lip to lengthen to decrease the amount gum (gingiva) that is shown. Some patients may also need a lower surgery to bring up the lower jaw to match the position of the upper jaw.
-
Titanium plates are used to hold the bone togther until it heals.
-
We never wire the jaws closed.
-
We use dental elastics to guide the new bite.
-
Braces are continued after surgery.
